What We Offer

COMMUNITY

Cowichan Valley communities range from charming seaside villages to bustling town centres near the centrally located city of Duncan, B.C. Each community has its own distinct flavour and they are unified by their welcoming and supportive people.

CLIMATE
The Cowichan Valley is Canada's only Mediterranean climatic zone and boasts the warmest year-round temperatures in Canada.  In fact, "Cowichan" is rooted in the Hul'q'umi'num word “shquw'utsun” which directly translated means “to warm one's back in the sun."
FAMILY

With excellent public schools, French Immersion, nature-based centres, and several world-class private schools, the Cowichan Valley is a wonderful place to raise your family. Your children can choose from a variety of sport and art clubs, and the whole family can enjoy state-of-the-art recreation facilities.

Our talented and creative community hosts many crafting and artisan markets for your weekend explorations. Choose from a multitude of farms, wineries, cideries, restaurants, and other diverse gathering places to truly experience the local hospitality. It's easy to get to know people personally in our friendly communities.

Island Health is looking for talented professionals to join our team of compassionate and dedicated nurses at Cowichan District Hospital today.

With a new, world-class community hospital under construction and doors opening in 2027, there are opportunities in all programs, including specialty areas. Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN or LPN registrant is required.

Join our growing team! These positions would be a great fit for you if you love the outdoors, want to escape big city living, and are looking for a new, fulfilling career in a vibrant, culturally diverse community that cares.

Relocation assistance may be available for eligible positions.

These positions may also qualify for Provincial and/or Federal Loan Forgiveness programs.

We will support you in your journey to deepening your practice and knowledge to provide culturally safe care for Indigenous, Metis, and Inuit people seeking health care.
Unspoiled and unhurried, Cowichan Valley's, rainforests, beaches, rivers and lakes naturally lend themselves to peace and tranquility. Construction for the new Cowichan District Hospital launched in 2023 and it is expected to open its doors in 2027. The replacement will be three times larger with capacity for 204 beds. It will be B.C.'s first fully electric hospital and is being built to LEED Gold standards for environmental sustainability.

Staff, patients, and Indigenous partners have contributed to a design with improved patient experience and provider wellness in mind, incorporating healing design and a strong connection to the natural environment.

ABOUT THE COWICHAN VALLEY

The best part about working at the Cowichan District Hospital is interacting with all my outstanding co-workers. In the operating room, we work closely as a team and I always look forward to spending time with our team.

Paisley, RN, CDH

I think there are so many opportunities right now because of the new hospital. I can see us moving and growing with the changes and doors opening up for everyone. The dynamic of creating change...is exhilarating.

Brenda, RN, CDH

I moved to Vancouver Island in the Fall of 2021. I enjoy the local waterfall hikes, beautiful walking paths, and stunning swimming spots in the summer. There are also great mountain biking locations.
